© NorthSince the introduction of the 11:metre one design class, North Sails has closely been involved in developing fast and durable sails for the 11:metre. Racing now a day will normally take place on upwind-downwind courses in sheltered waters on lakes and close to the shore on the open sea. The sails have to meet the greatest of demands. The sails must perform in a variety of conditions, everything from light air in a chop to gusty conditions combined with flat water. Downwind your goal is to sail lower than the opposition, while retaining speed. In order to meet all these different demands North Sails has created a concept that has proven itself to work in all wind and sea conditions.
Mainsail 3D-N
Made from North Sails proven 3 DL aramid construction, the sail has a modest luff curve and is relatively flat. That makes the sail easy to trim with very little permanent backstay adjustments required. In heavier wind conditions you require some checkstay tension to keep the mast in column. The luff curve is designed to fit the relatively strait mast you then get.
Jib 3D-C
Made of 3 DL aramid, strong to resist wind strength to 26 kn true. You trim the sail by changing the headstay and sheet tension. The extraordinary shapeholding properties in the sail require very little rimming with halyard and leadpossition. That gives the crew more time to put emphasis on tactics and strategies.
Spinnaker C98-D
The 11:metre is a modern light displacement boat that is subject to large variation in downwind speeds. The design of the spinnaker has stability to withstand the most extreme variations in angle of attack. The Dynalite cloth has a silicon finish to keep friction to a minimum during maneuvers.
